Our Story...
In 2017 my husband went down the rabbit hole of optimizing his health. His research led to the discovery of the many benefits of an animal based diet, which makes high quality animal fat and protein (beef in particular) the center of every meal. The bioavailability of vitamins and minerals that come from this way of eating is far superior to the standard American diet which primarily consists of ultra processed foods. This ultimately led our family to try to do a better job of eating in a more all-natural, chemical-free way.
It started slowly—small switches like the type of eggs and meat we buy, and using ghee or butter for cooking instead of processed seed oils. It quickly progressed to learning to make our own bone broth and sourdough bread. Simple and healthy changes for our family, that included using tallow shampoo and lotions we bought from online retailers.
In December 2024, I was struck with a creative idea in the middle of the night. The name “Fat Face” would be perfect—and funny—for an animal based face lotion. So, for Christmas I made my entire family jars of Fat Face Whipped Tallow Balm, using pasture raised beef fat that had been stored in our freezer from the last steer we purchased from a local farmer. Upon opening their gifts, their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, sparking my interest and curiosity in taking another step in this endeavor.
I soon began to allow my close friends to try the tallow balm, and it instantly became a hit. They gave me great feedback and encouraged me to expand further. My husband also provided his feedback on every scent and texture I produced, while ensuring I remained true to our belief that animal-based products are healing and need little else to overpower the tallow.
One friend in particular was adamant that my product was not just good, but better than the tallow she had been using previously (and she loved the other brand). Her encouragement allowed me to believe that Fat Face Tallow could be something that would change the lives of so many who struggled, like she did, with breakouts and skin health.
We sincerely hope that our Tallow Balm will be life changing for you, and perhaps even inspire you to consider other ways that high quality animal based food and products can have a profound impact on your health.
Welcome to the Fat Face family—we’re so glad you’re here.

Our Process
Our process begins with sourcing pasture raised beef suet and fat from local farms here in Virginia. We then render it multiple times over, creating a perfectly clarified and neutral-smelling base for all of our products.
After the rendering is complete we then add in other organic oils to the now tallow and whip the product according to which product is being made. We then fill the jars, and apply the labels--handwriting scents as needed. From here, the tallow is ready for sale!
It is important to note that we use very little oil compared to other products on the market to keep the tallow the main ingredient in each product.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why beef tallow?
Beef in general is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. Beef tallow contains vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12 plus other fatty acids in a bioavailable form to humans. Simply put, your body can actually absorb and utilize the rich nutrients in the tallow.
What ingredients do you use in your tallow products?
Our salve and balm are made with high quality beef suet while our body butter and citrus scrub are made from pasture raised beef fat. We also use organic oils to compliment the tallow according to the blend. We avoid using synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances, or preservatives.
Is your tallow suitable for sensitive skin?
Our tallows are well tolerated by most skin types. If you have extremely sensitive skin, we recommend starting with our unscented whipped tallow balm and patch testing. A great place to patch test is the inside crease of your elbow.
Do you offer custom tallow orders?
We offer custom orders for our wholesale partners. We may be able to accommodate individual custom orders in bulk. Please use the Contact Us form to find out.
How do I store my handmade tallow to make it last longer?
To extend the life of your handmade tallow, store in a cool, dry place. Refrigeration is not necessary, however, if your tallow has melted during shipping or while sitting out, you may place in the refrigerator to harden.
Do you offer wholesale or bulk purchase options?
Yes, we offer wholesale pricing for bulk purchases. Please contact us directly for more details and to discuss your specific needs.
When will my product ship?
This is truly an entirely handmade product. Please allow 48-72 hours for your product to ship. We use USPS Ground Advantage which takes 2-5 days in the lower 48 states and 12-16 days for Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
Do you accept returns?
Because we are a small, family owned and operated business, and because of the nature of the products, we cannot accept returns at this time.
